DC-3 Airways Air Mail Night Flights.

A guide for the installation of the DC-3 Air Mail Night Flight Beacons in FS2004 (FS9). NOTE: These beacons will not be visible in FS2002.

If you are unfamiliar with the procedure required for installing 'Add-on Scenery' to your Flight Simulator please follow these simple instructions.

Before you commence any scenery additions you must first ensure that your Flight Simulator is not running.

The installation of the "DC-3 Air Mail Night Flights" scenery will place rotating lighted beacons with 2 nm range NDBs attached, at specific locations, to enable you to fly these routes, during night, VFR conditions without the help of other Nav Aids such as VORs and regular NDBs.

Installation.

 1. If you do not already have an area where you are storing new scenery files then it is suggested that you create a New Folder on your main drive, probably C, and call it, for instance, Simulator Scenery. (This folder name can be any name you choose and can be located anywhere on your hard drive). You only have to remember where it is.

 2. Download the new scenery file (dca_am_night_flts_2004_V2.zip) to a Temporary folder of your choice. Since you are reading this you will already have done this.

 3. Unzip the downloaded Zip file, "dca_am_night_flts_V2.zip" into the same Temporary folder. A folder called "DCA AM Night Flights" will be created. This folder will contain another folder named "Scenery" which will contain a number of .BGL files . It will also contain a folder Called "Texture", which will be empty. The "DCA AM Night Flights" folder will also contain a "Readme First Please" txt file, and a Word version of the same file. This folder also contains 16 Word Document files that are the Flight Descriptions for these 16 flights(these flight descriptions will be available in PDF Format by contacting the writer) and this "Readme Installation" file. You will also see file, airmailroute-big.jpg that is a picture of a map that shows some of those first routes

 4. Copy the complete "dca am night flts" folder and paste it into the Simulator Scenery Folder that you created on your C Drive, or to the location you have chosen. Note: If you already have this folder in your computer, remove it and replace it with this folder

 5. Start FS2004.

 6. The first panel that appears has an entry at the bottom left called 'SETTINGS'. Click on this.

 7. At the bottom-left of the panel that appears is a button labelled: 'Scenery Library ...' Click on this.

 8. In the 'SETTINGS - SCENERY LIBRARY' panel click on 'Add Area'.

 9. A panel called 'Select Scenery Directory' will appear. You now need to navigate to the Simulator Scenery folder that you installed. Click on the 'DCA AM Night Flts' folder once only, the path to which will then appear in the box called Directory. Ignore the option to rename the file.

10. Click on 'OK'.

11. The new DCA AM Night Flts scenery will now appear on the list as number 1. If the 'Enabled' box at the left is empty, click on it to enable the scenery.

12. Click on 'OK'.

13. Now close down the simulator.

14. When you next start FS2004 the Light Beacons and NDB's will be visible at their proper locations.

Enjoy............
